Simple Order for
Devotions and PrayersBegin "In the Name of the Father and the Son and the + Holy Spirit. Amen."
- Pray a brief silent prayer
- Read a Psalm or sing a hymn.
- Read one of the daily readings listed or from Portals of Prayer.
- Catechism for the Week: The Leader asks the question; the others respond.
- (Optional) Confess the Apostles' Creed together in faith as praise to God, to strengthen the faith of others, and to learn about yourself the way God thinks about you
- Pray briefly the Prayers for the Week and the Daily Petitions (below).
- Conclude with the Lord's Prayer.
Daily Petitions of the Priesthood
Sunday: for the joy of the resurrection among us; for true and godly worship throughout the world; for true preaching and diligent hearing of God's Word; and salutary (right and healthful) eating and drinking of the Lord's body and blood.
Monday: for faith to live in the promises of Holy Baptism; for one's calling and daily work; for the unemployed; for the salvation and well-being of our neighbors; for government.
Tuesday: for the tempted, especially the addicted and despairing; for the tortured and oppressed; for peace
Wednesday: for marriage and family - to live according to God's will; for those adults who must rear their children alone; for godly teachers and schools, church schools, colleges and seminarians.
Thursday: for the Church and her pastors; for missionaries and missionary activity; for Rev. Gerald Kieschnick, President of our Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, our district president, Rev. Walter Pollen, and our Circuit Counselor, Rev. Harold Draeger.Friday: for the preaching of the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; and for its spread throughout the whole world, especially, in our communities; for those persecuted for the sake of the Gospel.
Saturday: for faithfulness to the end; for the revival of those who are withering in the faith or have fallen away; for receptive hearts and minds to God's Word on the Lord's Day; for the diligent preparation for worship and study tomorrow.
